Eighth Annual Family and Friends Charity Golf Tournament Raises more than $4,000 for Children's Heart Foundation

LAS VEGAS — TOn Sunday July 13, Children's Heart Foundation's Heart Kid Ashley Schlipp hosted the Eighth Annual Family and Friends Charity Golf Tournament raising $4,340 to benefit the Children's Heart Foundation, a Nevada-based non-profit that lends support to children and families who suffer or are affected by heart problems.

The annual event, which was held this year at the Siena Golf Club in Las Vegas, raised funds that will provide continued support for children and families challenged with facing heart disease. Schlipp, who was born with critical aortic stenosis in 1989, is one of the children the foundation has helped in the past. After an unsuccessful attempt to fix her heart at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Medical Center, she underwent a successful procedure at Boston Children's Hospital. Schlipp then returned to Las Vegas and later became involved with Children's Heart Foundation.

Children's Heart Foundation Receives $5,000 Grant from The Vons Foundation

LAS VEGAS July 24, 2008 — The Vons Foundation, a charitable organization funded primarily by Vons employees, recently awarded a $5,000 grant to Children's Heart Foundation, a Nevada-based non-profit that lends support to families as they deal with the emotional and financial toll exacted by a child's heart problems.

The funds will be used for Family Outreach, a program which among its services helps in a new diagnosis or crisis situation by helping families pay for living expenses such as rent, utilities, food, travel expenses and medical costs such as prescriptions.

"Many families incur incredible financial burdens from medical bills due to the numerous doctors' appointments and hospital stays heart kids require. So we applaud Vons for seeing the need for our services and helping financially so we can continue our very important mission," said Lyn Acebo, board president and heart mom. "The employees of Vons believe in the importance of giving back to the communities where we live and work," said Marlyn Denter, president of the Vons Foundation. "On behalf of all the employee members of the Vons Foundation, I would like to thank the Children's Heart Foundation for the important work they do and for giving us the opportunity to support their efforts in Las Vegas."
